The Heap
We were in the lovely Orchard yesterday, and very nearly bought a cone-type plastic compost bin. However, it occurred to us that a) it wouldn’t fit very well in the compost-bin-allotted corner of the garden due to two highly immovable treestumps there and b) we had a whole lot of old floorboards and offcuts of timber arranged neatly in a pile by my brother before the housewarming. These got ripped out of our house during the Great Upgrade.
So, over the last couple of days, we built ourselves a big box to make compost in. There were many fortuitous happenstances in its construction - for example, we chose 120cm as the width because that would just about cover the two stumps in the corner, but that turned out to be the width of one of the wooden pallets we had lying around. We were able to use it (after some patching) as the back of the box.
Pictures!
I now have various little wounds, several slightly used tools, and a warm feeling of satisfaction. Nice to get the garden started.
